A playground zone across an intersection
School / Playground zones · Alberta Class 5 road test
Enter the zone on the side road; after turning left onto the main road, still maintain 25–30 km/h until the End sign
Watch the interactive demoHow to drive it
T-intersection with a yield sign, the view following your car: arriving on the side road at 37 km/h + brake lightly before the Start sign, 25–30 km/h when the front reaches it + slow down at the yield sign and look while rolling; no traffic on the main road, so turn left without stopping + turning onto the main road doesn't end the zone; still maintain 25–30 km/h after the turn + speed up to 47 only once the rear has passed the End sign
Common mistakes
Sped up after the turn, still in the zone
Road test: automatic fail — L5 Speeding violation
After the turn you were still in the playground zone, already at 47 km/h. A speed zone is set by its signs, not by the road: turning onto another street doesn't take you out of it, so hold the limit until you see an End sign and the rear of the car has passed it.
