Alberta Road Test Scenarios
Every scenario in the simulator, starting with the Alberta Class 5 road test: how to drive it, the common mistakes, and how the examiner marks them. Each one opens as an interactive demo.
Traffic lights · Right turn
- Right turn on redCome to a complete stop; wait for traffic from the left and pedestrians
- Right turn on red · creeping forwardThe car waiting beside you blocks the view to the left; stop, then creep forward slowly
- Right turn on greenYield to pedestrians on the crosswalk at the stop line
Traffic lights · Left turn
- Left turn on a green arrowProtected left turn; the oncoming car turns left at the same time
- Left turn on greenUnprotected left turn: wait in the intersection for oncoming traffic
- Left turn on green · clearing on the light changeWait in the intersection until the light changes; once oncoming traffic stops, clear the intersection
Traffic lights · Straight through
- Yellow light going straight · stop if you canFar enough back when it turns yellow: stop smoothly at the stop line
- Yellow light going straight · go if you can't stopToo close when it turns yellow: keep your speed and go through
- Straight on green · first car moving offStop at the line on red; scan left and right before the green, then go
T-intersections
- Right turn at a stop signStop before the crosswalk; yield to traffic from the left and pedestrians
- Left turn at a stop sign · creeping forwardParked cars block the view; creep forward to the edge of the travel lane
- Left turn at a yield signSlow down ready to stop; the traffic has passed, so don't stop
- T-intersection · left turn from the main roadThe main road has the right-of-way: turn left without stopping
Four-way stops
- Four-way stop · queuingQueue first, then stop again at the line; first come, first served
- Four-way stop · arriving togetherStopped together: yield to the right; the car on the left yields to you
- Four-way stop · your car turns leftStopped together: the left turn yields to oncoming traffic going straight
Uncontrolled intersections
- Uncontrolled intersection · on your ownEven with no traffic, slow to 15 and look left and right; go through without stopping
- Uncontrolled intersection · car from the rightEven if you arrive first, stop completely and let the car on the right go
- Uncontrolled T-intersection · side-road car from the rightThe through road isn't a main road: stop completely for the side-road car on the right
- Uncontrolled T-intersection · side-road car from the leftYou have the right-of-way: look left, no slowing, no stopping
Highways / Main roads
- Lane change on a main roadSignal, mirror, shoulder check; change lanes at a steady speed to pass a slow car
- Left turn off a main road (double turn lanes)Hold the speed limit in the through lane, slow down only in the left turn lane; double left turn on the arrow
- Merging from an on-rampHold ramp speed on the ramp, reach main-road speed in the acceleration lane, find a gap past the solid line and merge
School / Playground zones
- Through a playground zoneSlow down before the sign, maintain 25–30 km/h in the zone, speed up only once the rear has passed the End sign
- A playground zone across an intersectionEnter the zone on the side road; after turning left onto the main road, still maintain 25–30 km/h until the End sign
- A slow car in a playground zoneDon't pass the slow car ahead; follow it to the End sign
- A pedestrian crossing in a school zoneA child is crossing: stop before the crosswalk and wait until they reach the other side
Parking
- Parallel parkingPark behind the car ahead: back into the spot, leave in one go
- Uphill parkingPark at the right curb uphill: turn the wheels and roll back against the curb
- Downhill parkingPark at the right curb downhill: turn the wheels and roll forward against the curb; back up before leaving
