How to drive it

Common mistakes

Crossed without slowing down early

Road test: automatic fail — L8 Lacks caution at uncontrolled intersection

Nothing happened this time, but it's still an automatic fail. At an uncontrolled intersection, a vehicle from your right has the right-of-way; before you get there, ease off the gas and slow to about 15 km/h early, ready to stop for it at any moment. Too fast, and even if you see a car coming from the right you can't stop, the easiest way to get hit from the side.

Crossed without checking both ways

Road test: automatic fail — L8 Lacks caution at uncontrolled intersection

Nothing happened this time, but it's still an automatic fail. Approaching an uncontrolled intersection, clearly turn your head to scan each side that has a road (left and right at a four-way intersection, the side road at a T-intersection), checking for cars and people; look only ahead and you won't see a car coming from the right, or know to stop for it.

Stopped unnecessarily with no traffic

Road test: 10 points — D3 Unnecessary stop

Nothing happened this time, but it still counts against you. With no cars or people to yield to, slow down, look, then drive through at a steady speed; stopping for no reason catches the car behind off guard and leaves other drivers guessing what you're doing, an unnecessary stop that obstructs traffic.
